What the interface changes in practice

Dragging performers onto the stage and layering them works as before. The useful difference is legibility: the mute, solo and delete controls under each performer are clearer, and on a crowded pyramid that matters, because you stop hunting for the right icon in the middle of a mix.

Spend a minute reading the row of icons before you place anyone. Knowing where solo sits lets you isolate a layer the moment two parts collide, instead of pulling characters back off the board.

If the icons are hard to read on a full board, reduce the number of performers rather than squinting at them. A four-character mix with clear controls is easier to adjust than an eight-character mix you cannot manage.

Approaching the Phase 5 material

Phase 5 material is dense. Start with two performers, add a third, and stop to listen before adding a fourth. Refined layering helps separate parts, but it does not remove the need to leave room.

If a mix feels flat, swap a performer rather than adding another. Deluxe editions invite maximal boards because everything looks good on screen, and that is exactly when a mix turns into noise.

Who it suits

Play this if you liked the fifth phase and want a tidier way to work with it. Skip it if you want a genuinely different sound; the deluxe label points at polish, not at a new mechanic, and the build is described in terms of redesign and refinement rather than addition.

Comparing it with the original phase is the fastest test. One short mix on each, the same number of performers, and you will know whether the upgrade is worth your time.
